The History of Manly Men in New Jersey
Many have asked "how did the Manly Men get started?" It all started with a challenge at a cookout in a backyard in the summer of 1990. A number of us guys got together for a good time. Naturally men are not allowed to be by themselves because we might do something stupid. So our wives were at the cookout on a warm summer day to make sure we did not make fools of ourselves.
We, the men, sat around talking about how great a time we were having. We were drinking, eating and laughing. The Grand Poobah in the sky sent all of us a great thought "If we are having fun in a backyard how much better could it be to be in the natural beauty of the woods!" With that JB stood up an announced, I have a thought!. "We should go forth and go camping in the woods and have even better fun!" The Sliver Surfer stood up and said "lets have an even better time but without women."
This caused much consternation on the part of our wives. How could men be allowed to go out into the woods and have a fun time without their wives? They thought about it for a minute and started laughing. They realized no way could a group of men organize themselves to go camping without their wives who would pick the camp site, make the resevation, pack their clothes and cook their meals. It is not possible!.
Well, we proved them wrong. Two years later in 1992, we went on our first camping trip. It rained, it was cold, we had no food, no tents ,no sleeping bags (well except for Jim who had a leopard skin colored sleeping bag ... but that is another story). We had a blast! An so the Manly Men of New Jersey was born from adversity and hardship ... and made STRONG!! We are now 17 years strong and still no women helping! We are proud to be men!
